Using "dist-upgrade" does work, I just left out a step there - you need to change all your references from one release to the other release in your sources.list (eg: change all references from "Intrepid" to "Jaunty"), run "update" and then run "dist-upgrade".

However that all said and done, it's easier to do "do-release-upgrade", so I'll change the instructions to use that - cheers for the tip.

Thanks for taking the time to post.

Your instructions for command-line upgrading won't work. 'apt-get dist-upgrade' won't ever upgrade to a new release (like from hardy to gutsy, for example).

Use 'do-release-update', which is part of the 'update-manager-core' package (which should already be installed).
